VV-016: Stage 3 of Plant Health — High Lipid Synthesis
In the previous posts, we looked at the first two stages of John Kempf's Plant Health Pyramid. We learned how to naturally repel root rot through complete photosynthesis, and how to naturally repel sap-sucking insects like leafhoppers and whiteflies through complete protein synthesis.
Today we are going to move to the next level of the pyramid — "Stage 3: High Lipid Synthesis". If your crop has reached this stage... leaf-eating worms, beetles, and airborne fungal diseases (leaf spots/blights) won't even be able to take a single bite out of your crop's leaves!
What is Stage 3 Health?
After a crop runs its leaf factory at 100% speed — having fully produced sugars (Stage 1) and proteins (Stage 2) — it accumulates a huge amount of extra energy.
In this Stage 3, the crop begins converting that extra energy into lipids (fats, plant oils, and waxes) for storage.
The crop produces these essential oils and pushes them straight to the upper part of the leaf. This creates a thick, glossy wax layer on the leaf's surface. In science, this is called the Cuticle Shield. If you go look at a mango grove or banana plantation that has reached this Stage 3, the leaves will be shining brilliantly in the sun as if someone applied oil and polished them!
The Protection This Gives the Crop: A Wall Against Worms and Diseases!
If your crop reaches this third-stage lipid level, it gains a third natural shield. After this, these two problems won't even come near your field:
- Leaf-eating worms & beetles: Worms like cutworms and armyworms cannot digest these wax- and oil-coated leaves. The very next moment after biting it, their digestive power completely shuts down.
- Airborne fungal diseases (yellow leaf spot, grey mold): Fungal spores floating in the air land on the leaf's skin and release an acid enzyme to try to puncture it. But they cannot do anything to this thick wax layer. Those fungal spores simply slip and fall down to die.
The Chemical Trap: Pesticides That Destroy the Wax Shield!
Why do pest and leaf blight problems never go away in fields that practice chemical agriculture? Because the potent chemical sprays we apply, along with excessive nitrogen fertilizers, completely destroy this natural wax layer on the leaf. They over-hydrate the crop's body and make the leaf skin very tender. By stripping off the crop's natural raincoat, we hang out a welcome board for pests and diseases!
What Does This Require?
For the crop to produce these high-quality lipids and build the wax shield, it most importantly needs good soil biology.
Crops cannot absorb the complex molecules that form lipids from the soil on their own. As we saw in WA-010, only when beneficial fungi (Mycorrhizae) and bacteria around the roots digest and supply those nutrients can the crop build this wax layer. If you've destroyed the soil's life with chemicals, the crop cannot reach this third stage.
What We Must Understand:
Don't spend money buying poisons to control worms and leaf blight diseases. Create the biological environment in the soil for the crop to stitch its own wax raincoat.
If you want to understand this a little more deeply, to go beyond the first two stages of the Plant Health Pyramid, the first thing we need to correct is whether the soil has all the nutrients in the right amounts and in the right proportions — in a form the crop can take up. Most people lack this understanding. Without correcting the nutrition, we cannot multiply the microbes alone. Clear agricultural science is essential to correct the nutrition.

கடந்த பதிவுகள்ல ஜான் கெம்பின் தாவர ஆரோக்கிய பிரமிடோட முதல் ரெண்டு கட்டங்களைப் பார்த்தோம். முழுமையான ஒளிச்சேர்க்கை மூலமா வேர் அழுகலையும், முழுமையான புரோட்டீன் தையல் மூலமா இலைப்பேன், வெள்ளை ஈ போன்ற சாறு உறிஞ்சும் பூச்சிகளையும் எப்படி இயற்கையா விரட்டுறதுன்னு தெரிஞ்சுக்கிட்டோம்.
இன்னைக்கு நாம பிரமிடோட அடுத்த லெவலுக்குப் போகப்போறோம் — "மூன்றாம் கட்டம்: கொழுப்புச் சத்து உருவாக்கம்" (High Lipid Synthesis). இந்த கட்டத்தை உங்க பயிர் அடைஞ்சிருச்சுனா... இலை தின்னும் புழுக்கள், வண்டுகள் மற்றும் காற்றில் பரவும் பூஞ்சாண நோய்கள் (Leaf Spots/Blights) உங்க பயிரோட இலைகளைக் கடித்துக் கூட பார்க்க முடியாது!
மூன்றாம் கட்ட ஆரோக்கியம் (Stage 3) என்றால் என்ன?
ஒரு பயிர் தன் இலைத் தொழிற்சாலையை 100% வேகத்துல இயக்கி—சர்க்கரையையும் (Stage 1), புரோட்டீனையும் (Stage 2) முழுமையாத் தச்சு முடிச்சதுக்கு அப்புறம், அதுகிட்ட ஏகப்பட்ட எக்ஸ்ட்ரா எனர்ஜி (உபரி ஆற்றல்) சேரும்.
இந்த மூன்றாம் கட்டத்துல, பயிர் அந்த எக்ஸ்ட்ரா எனர்ஜியை லிப்பிடுகளாக (Lipids - கொழுப்புகள், தாவர எண்ணெய்கள் மற்றும் மெழுகுகள்) மாற்றிச் சேமிக்கத் தொடங்கும்.
பயிர் இந்த அத்தியாவசிய எண்ணெய்களைத் தயாரிச்சு, அப்படியே இலையோட மேல் பகுதிக்குத் தள்ளிவிடும். இது இலையோட வெளிப்பகுதியில ஒரு தடிமனான, பளபளப்பான மெழுகு அடுக்கை உருவாக்கும். இதுக்கு அறிவியல்ல கியூட்டிகிள் (Cuticle Shield) என்று பெயர். இந்த மூன்றாம் கட்டத்தை அடைஞ்ச ஒரு மாந்தோப்புக்கோ அல்லது வாழைத் தோட்டத்துக்கோ நீங்க போய் பார்த்தீங்கன்னா, இலைங்க மேல யாரோ ஆயில் தடவி பாலிஷ் போட்ட மாதிரி வெயில்ல பலபலன்னு ஜொலிக்கும்!
இதனால பயிருக்குக் கிடைக்கும் பாதுகாப்பு: புழுக்களுக்கும் நோய்களுக்கும் தடா!
உங்க பயிர் இந்த மூன்றாம் கட்ட கொழுப்பு நிலையை அடைஞ்சிட்டா, அதுக்கு மூணாவது இயற்கை கேடயம் கிடைச்சிடும். இதுக்கப்புறம் இந்த ரெண்டு பிரச்சனையும் உங்க வயல் பக்கமே வராது:
- இலை தின்னும் புழுக்கள் & வண்டுகள்: கத்தரிப்புழு, கம்பளிப்புழு போன்ற இலை தின்னும் புழுக்களால இந்த மெழுகு மற்றும் எண்ணெய் பசை நிறைந்த இலைகளைச் செரிக்கவே முடியாது. இதைக் கடிச்ச அடுத்த நிமிடம் அதுங்களோட ஜீரண சக்தி மொத்தமா முடங்கிடும்.
- காற்றில் பரவும் பூஞ்சாண நோய்கள் (மஞ்சள் இலைப்புள்ளி, சாம்பல் நோய்): காத்துல மிதந்து வர்ற பூஞ்சாண வித்துக்கள் (Spores) இலையோட தோல் மேல உட்கார்ந்து, அதை ஓட்டை போட ஒரு ஆசிட் என்சைமை ரிலீஸ் பண்ணும். ஆனா, இந்த தடிமனான மெழுகு அடுக்கை அதால ஒன்னும் செய்ய முடியாது. அந்த பூஞ்சை வித்துக்கள் அப்படியே வழுக்கிக்கிட்டு கீழே விழுந்து மடிஞ்சு போயிடும்.
ரசாயன வலை: மெழுகு கேடயத்தை அழிக்கும் பூச்சிக்கொல்லிகள்!
ஏன் ரசாயன விவசாயம் செய்யுற வயல்கள்ல புழுத் தொல்லையும் இலை கருகல் நோயும் தீரவே மாட்டேங்குது? ஏன்னா, நாம அடிக்கிற வீரியமிக்க ரசாயன மருந்துகளும், அதிகப்படியான நைட்ரஜன் உரங்களும் இலையோட இந்த இயற்கை மெழுகு அடுக்கை அடியோட அழிச்சிடுது. பயிரோட உடம்புல தண்ணீரை மட்டும் எக்ஸ்ட்ராவா ஊட்டி, இலையோட தோலை ரொம்ப லேசா மாத்திடுது. பயிரோட இயற்கை ரெயின்கோட்டை (Raincoat) கழட்டிப் போட்டுட்டு, நாம பூச்சிக்கும் நோய்க்கும் வெல்கம் போர்டு வைக்கிறோம்!
இதுக்கு என்ன தேவை?
பயிர் இந்த உயர்தர கொழுப்புச் சத்தை தயாரிச்சு மெழுகு கேடயத்தை உருவாக்கணும்னா, அதுக்கு மிக முக்கியமா மண்ணில் நல்ல நுண்ணுயிர்கள் (Soil Biology) இருக்கணும்.
கொழுப்பை உருவாக்கும் சிக்கலான மூலக்கூறுகளை பயிர்களால தனியா மண்ணுல இருந்து உறிஞ்ச முடியாது. நாம WA-010-ல பார்த்த மாதிரி, வேரைச் சுத்தி இருக்குற நல்ல பூஞ்சைகளும் (Mycorrhizae) பாக்டீரியாக்களும் அந்தச் சத்துக்களைச் செரிச்சு குடுத்தா மட்டும்தான் பயிரால இந்த மெழுகு அடுக்கைக் கட்ட முடியும். ரசாயனம் போட்டு மண்ணோட உயிரை அழிச்சு வச்சிருந்தா, பயிர் இந்த மூணாவது கட்டத்துக்கு வரவே முடியாது.
நாம புரிஞ்சுக்க வேண்டிய விஷயம்:
புழுக்களையும் இலை கருகல் நோயையும் கட்டுப்படுத்த காசு குடுத்து விஷம் வாங்காதீங்க. பயிர் தனக்குத்தானே மெழுகு ரெயின்கோட் தைக்கிறதுக்கான உயிரியல் சூழலை மண்ணுல உருவாக்குங்க.
இத நீங்க இன்னும் கொஞ்சம் ஆழமா புரிஞ்சிக்கிட்டீங்கணா, தாவர ஆரோக்கிய பிரமிடோட முதல் இரண்டு கட்டங்களை தாண்டுரதற்கு முதல்ல நாம சரி செய்ய வேண்டியது அந்த மண்ணுல சரியான அளவுல, சரியான விகிதத்துல அனைத்து ஊட்டச்சத்துக்களும் இருக்கா - அது பயிர் எடுத்துக்குற மாதிரி இருக்கான்னு தான். இங்க பெரும்பாலானவர்களுக்கு இந்த புரிதல் இல்லை. ஊட்டச்சத்த சரி செய்யாம நம்ம நுண்ணுயிர மட்டும் பெருக்க வாய்ப்பு இல்லை. ஊட்டச்சத்த சரி செய்ய, தெளிவான விவசாய அறிவியல் அவசியம்.
